Who Are The Top Bloggers
When you look at the blogging community you may ask yourself: Who are the top bloggers? To answer this question, we can break down what makes one through specific categories. It isn’t just one category that makes someone a top blogger but rather a collection of them. The top bloggers aren’t people who are strong in one category only, they are well rounded and have a great balance of all categories.
Content
As the say goes, content is king. The same is applied when considering who the top bloggers are. When you look at some of the more popular bloggers who we can consider to be the top bloggers, such as Tim Ferriss, content is so important that he will actually take down blog posts that aren’t doing well. Being able to consistently produce good content is what separates the good bloggers from the top bloggers. Being the top means that you are ahead of everyone else and you are setting the standard. A great way to measure how your content is doing is to keep track of the number of comments that your blog posts are receiving as well as the number of linkbacks and views. You can keep track of your views through Google Analytics.
Something that is helpful when approaching the way you write your content is to first determine what your blog ‘niche’ will be. Once you have an idea of what content you feel you have a good understand of and can write good content about, it has a chance to bring value to your readers and help you become one of the top bloggers
The Top Bloggers Number Game
Just because your mother thinks your blog is the best in the world doesn’t mean it is. She thinks it is because she is your mother. Unfortunately, not everyone will think the same way. In reality, just because you have good content that doesn’t mean you are one of the top bloggers. To be one, you have to play the numbers game. If you have great content but only 2,000 views a month, as compared to someone who has decent content but gets 50,000 a month, that means you are way behind and have some work to do. Marketing your blog is a huge part to building that community around it and getting the word out about who you are and what your blog is about.
A great way to start marketing your blog is by joining a blogging community such as 20 Something Bloggers or Blog Catalog where you can meet other people who share the same interest as you. In these communities is where you can really start to build up your personal brand as well as network with others who can help you spread your blog as well. If you look at the top bloggers, you will also notice that most if not all use Twitter. Twitter has become such a powerful tool that it is becoming almost mainstream as far as companies using it to penetrate the market.
Twitter and Top Bloggers
Twitter is so important that I will go as far as to say that if you want your blog to be successful, you have to use Twitter or some sort of social media to market your blog. Twitter has the ability to not only allow information to be shared instantly and with a huge number of people, but it also allows you as the author of your blog a chance to really connect with some of your readers and not only gain traffic, but build your network.
If you look at the evolution of Twitter as well as the evolution of the top bloggers, you will notice that almost all the top bloggers have a custom themed background for their Twitter account. Just like how on your own blog you have a theme to it, your Twitter account is an extension of your personal brand and will allow others to be instantly associated with you.
