Blog Directory

What is a Blog Directory

A blog directory is a collection of blogs that is organized in a fashion that is easy for people to find the blogs they are interested in. During the early days of the internet, there are usually two ways to discover content. One is to search, and the other is to browse.

Blog search engines help you search and find good content that are in blogs. On the other hand, a blog directory is usually where you would go to browse through blogs that you are interested in.

Pros and Cons of using a blog directory

The nice things about a blog directory is that everything is organized by categories, so you can easily find the blogs you want in each field you are interested in.

The negative thing about a blog directory is that it limits the way you can find things. If you were interested in a blog on chess, instead of looking through a list of chess blogs, you might need to look through a list of “Crafts and Games” which is not very refined for your purpose.

This is especially true if you want to find any sort of ranking for blogs. If you ranked all the chess blogs together, that would be ideal. However, ranking all the blogs in “crafts and games” would not be as useful to you.

Where can I find a blog directory

There’s a few places on the internet where you can find a blog directory you like. Sites like Blog Catalogue and others offer some nice ways to search for blogs. You can also use the tools at Viralogy.com.

Viralogy is like a combination between a directory, a rank and a blog search. It has a lot of blogs in each field and niche, and you can find them by either browsing by categories (the blog directory method) or by the search engine (the blog search method).

After you have pulled out the list of blogs you have searched for or browsed, you can then find out which ones are the top rank, most viewed, or newest for today, this week, this month, or all time. That way, you can not only find the blogs that are exactly what you are looking for, you can also compare them based on how popular they are.

All in all, using a blog directory is good if you are doing research and just browsing around, but if you are seriously looking for good and relevant blogs, having a search tool with a ranking system is ideal.
