Best Blogspot

Blogspot, or blogger, was one of the very first blogging platforms that allowed for an easy to use interface and helped non-techy people begin to blog.  Though Blogspot came out before Wordpress, Wordpress has quickly over taken Blogspot as the blogging platform of choice for people involved with social media, personal branding, and who want to generate revenue with their blog.

The ease of use and attractiveness of blogspot

Blogspot was bought by Google in 2003, so a lot of it’s ease of use and integration with internet applications has come from Google’s influence.  The attractiveness of blogspot is that anyone with a Google account can easily sign up for an account.  Since the majority of Gen Y already has a Gmail account, they have easily transitioned to Blogspot by signing up with their Google account.

Most blogs on blogspot are personal blogs

Remember the days of Xanga and Live Journal?  Well, Blogspot has become the best evolution of the online diary. Most people on Blogspot use the platform as a way to keep track of their daily adventures and share their feelings with personal friends or anyone who will listen to them.  Even the best blogspot users don’t heavily promote their blog.

If you’re looking to simply keep an online diary of your life, then blogspot could be the best platform for your blogging needs.

Why Wordpress is better than Blogspot

Wordpress is by far the best blogging platform on the market.  Just from a cultural standpoint, Wordpress bloggers care heavily about building traffic, teaching their audience about their area of expertise, and generating revenue through their writing.  You’ll also notice some very interesting differences in format between Wordpress and Blogspot:

  • Wordpress Blogs usually have a tabbed menu in the header; Blogspot users have a menu in the right hand sidebar
  • Wordpress Blogs have “About” and “Contact” pages; Blogspot blogs rarely have detailed “About” pages and almost never have “Contact” pages
  • Commenting on Wordpress is easy and simple; commenting on Blogspot is difficult, takes long, and makes you go to a different page
  • Theme customization is limitless on Wordpress; few Blogspot themes have been fully customized
  • Wordpress has an endless amount of Plugins that add a myriad of features to the platform; Blogspot does not have many plugins for its users

Even the best Blogspot blogs pale in comparison to Wordpress blogs.

The best blogspot bloggers don’t compare to Twitter

When you look at the blogging elite, all of them use Wordpress blogs: Tech Crunch, Mashable, and Zen Habits just to name a few.  There is a reason, and the reason is the sheer customization features on Wordpress compared to Twitter.

Blogspot does have it’s gems though.  Take a look at the Best Blogspot blogs:

  1. Post Secret

Evan Williams left blogspot to start Twitter

The Co-founder of Blogspot went on to become one of the Co-founders of Twitter.  When you have a successful startup, it sure seems like all future startups become much easier to make successful.
