Best Blogs
What are Best Blogs
Best blogs are, as the name suggests, blogs that are better than all the other blogs out there. There are many ways to identify if a blog is part of the category of Best Blogs. The most common way is to base it on traffic. However, most traffics of sites are hidden, and Compete/Alexa can be extremely off.
That’s why some people base it on subscribers. After all, if people subscribe, it must mean the blog is worth something. Usually a very small percentage of people who read a blog subscribe to it, so any blog with a subscription list of above 30,000 is considered one of the best blogs out there.
Most of the top blogs show you their subscription rate, but some of them don’t. Plus, some blogs are great at attractive readers but not conversation. For that reason, comments are another way to track blogs. If a blog has a lot of comments, they are considered top blogs. I believe that if each post can generate 100 comments on average, then the blog has exceeded the top blog mark.
Yes, perhaps half those comments are driven by the blogger. However, having an engaged author is also what makes a top blog.
Where do I find the Best Blogs
There are quite a few ways to find the best blogs. You can use a few of the blog ranking and search sites out there like Technorati. However, Technorati is becoming harder and harder to use while losing some credibility. Viralogy.com also has some good tools to find the top blogs, especially top blogs in all kinds of niches using keyword search.
However, just because a blog is called best doesn’t mean it is suited for you. Sometimes you want to find more relevant ones that are not yet popular but has great content in the field that you are interested in. That’s why the long tail is often very popular for blogs.
Is it good to do marketing or advertise on the best blogs?
I personally think it is not a good idea to advertise on the best blogs. All the advertisers are looking to advertise on the best blogs and the price is jacked up. On the other hand, if you focus on blogs that have between 1,000 to 20,000, you can actually reach thousands of people for less than a few hundred dollars a month, an incredible deal.
Also, on top blogs, there are usually too many advertisers and sponsors, whereas on smaller blogs you can be the only sponsor. All the readers will pay attention to you because readers ALL care about how a blogger they are following is making money.
