Social Ranking
What Is Your Social Ranking
One of the main reason we created Viralogy was because we wanted to create a system for people to rank themselves amongst their peers to determine where they lie in regards to social ranking. While it is true that no ranking system is perfect, we feel that we have created a social ranking that will allow users to determine if they are well rounded and what they need to work on.
Using factors such as Twitter and Facebook as well as LinkedIn will allow users to incorporate many different platforms. By incorporating many different factors in ones social ranking, it is allowing the user to become more well rounded and also encourages them to work on building up their network
What Does Social Ranking Measure?
Social ranking is important because it can be thought of as a measurement of ones influence as far as social networks go. As the saying goes: “You are only as strong as your network.” With that mindset, ones social ranking is showing how strong one is when it comes to their network. In the business world, social ranking can be especially useful because of its practically in its application. For example, through a social ranking system anyone can find out who is the ‘authority’ in a field such as finance. By having a strong social ranking you are showing others that you are well networked and that to an extent you have others that can ‘vouch’ or recommend you. To use social ranking effectively it is important that you understand the full concept of it and don’t play the numbers game. What is meant by the numbers game is you are making network connections at a high rate, but not following up on them. A good comparison is someone that buys a lot of books but doesn’t read any of them in comparison to someone who may not buy as many books but has read them all.
How Build Your Social Ranking
To start building up your social ranking, it is helpful to start with a blog. A blog is great because it allows you to build an identity as well as build up your own personal brand. Once you have successfully established a blog and have begun releasing content you can then begin to network it with others. By using networks like Twitter and Facebook you can share your content with ease and also get feedback. As your blog traffic grows so will your network. Since social ranking takes into account the different social networks that are popular, your blog can be thought of as a key to the social networks.
Ultimately, while you may be creating a name for yourself via Twitter and the different social networks out there, your blog will play the biggest role in building up your social ranking. Social networks are meant to act as supports for your social ranking.
How To Leverage Social Ranking
When you apply for a job one of the important factors that an employer will look at is how you can help the company. Someone that is skilled at a specific task has a definite advantage over someone who isn’t. The same can go for social ranking. Someone who has a strong network and has a lot of social influence is prefer ed over someone who has limited social influence and is low on social ranking. Remember that while skill set is important for a job, they do take into account many different aspects of an applicant, one of which is their social and networking attributes.
